Volleyball Harnesses Bobcats

Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--After getting off to a slow start this season, the Barry University volleyball team returned to form earlier tonight harnessing the St. Thomas Bobcats 3-0 at the Health & Sports Center.

In game one, the Bobcats jumped out to a 5-2 early lead, however the Buccaneer offensive attack began to jell and the Bucs tied the game at seven. They held strong to win all three games 30-18, 30-23, and 30-14.

Karla Bersano tallied a match-high 15 kills while also registering a .406 attack percentage. Middle hitter Fernanda Ferreira followed with 12 kills and blistering .688 attack percentage to lead all hitters. Elaine Gibson earned her third start of the season to finish the match with the second highest attack percentage at .615 and recorded a team-high eight digs. Setter Daniela Lanza served up 37 assists.

Maria Taveras with eight kills and a .333 attack percentage paced the Bobcats. Aline Abduche finished with 28 assists.

There was no question who was in charge on the court tonight. The Buccaneers dominated the court registering a .409 attack percentage to the Bobcats .124.

The Bucs, who appear to have return to form, improved to 3-4 overall, while the Bobcats fell to 5-4. Barry will resume action on Tuesday, Sept. 24 hosting Nova Southeastern at the Health & Sports Center at 7 pm before returning to the road next weekend.
