Box Score 2 LAKELAND, Fla.--The Barry University tennis teams advanced to the finals of the NCAA South Region Tournaments on Friday with perfect 5-0 wins in the semifinals. The women defeated Catawba and the men beat Wingate. Both teams now face Florida Southern in the finals.
In the women's match, the Bucs rolled through the doubles winning flights one and two 8-2 and taking number three 8-3.
Valeria Papandrea earned the fourth point at number six singles when Shelley Gordan was forced to retire after Papandrea built a 5-0 lead in the first set. Maria Lopez clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bailey Gainey at number three. The Bucs were up a set at the other four flights.
The men's match was similar, with the Bucs taking all three doubles and then grabbing two quick wins in singles to wrap it up.
Sebastian Losavio made short work of Adam Jackson 6-0, 6-0 at number two singles for the fourth point. Alex Reichl closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win at number five.
The women's team extended their winning streak to 22 matches and stand 22-3 heading into the final with the Mocs. The Indians finish up 15-7.
The Buccaneer men are 11-9, while the Bulldogs drop to 12-7.
