Box Score MELBOURNE, Fla. -- After completing a two-game regular season sweep over the Tampa Spartans, the Barry University women's basketball team fell victim to the Spartans today at the Sunshine State Conference tournament 74-64 in Melbourne, Fla., hosted by Florida Tech.
The Buccaneers struck first, but the Spartans gained control going into the half with a 34-16 lead. In the second half, Tampa extended their lead to 24 with 7:07 remaining. However, the Bucs mounted a comeback going on a 20-6 run to close out the game only to fall 74-64.
Carolina Santamarina led all scorers with 17 points, while going 8 of 10 from the charity stripe. Jaida Williams followed with 14 points and a game-high 11 boards.
April Hinton paced the Spartans with 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Bucs ended the 2001-02 campaign with a 14-13 overall record while finishing third in the SSC at 8-6. The Spartans improved to 16-11 and advance to the second round of the tournament.
