Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.--The Barry men's soccer team escaped their regular season finale with the Eckerd Tritons 2-1 in double overtime Saturday at the Turley Complex.
Avi Scabini punched in the game-winner with 2:26 left in the second overtimne period to give Barry (15-1-1, 7-0-0 in the Sunshine State Conference) the narrow win.
The Tritons jumped out on top first with Brian Feyes scoring from six yards out with an assist from Chase Brooks at the 33:05 mark of the first half.
The Bucs managed the equalizer at the 56:31 mark when
Avi Scabini crossed the ball over to
Andres Lozano who booted it past Triton Keeper Krisjans Streips.
The game went to extra periods when neither team could manage another goal in regulation.
Both teams had chances in the extra periods. Dustin Heckman almost ended the game for Eckerd at the 91:27 mark when he smacked a shotoff the cross bar. Barry's
Alen Marcina put a header into the goal at the 94:29 mark, but it was called back when Bardoni was called offsides.
Ron Goguen made seven saves for the Bucs to improve his record to 15-1-1. Streips had 10 saves for the Tritons (8-9-0, 2-5-0 SSC).
The win gives Barry the SSC title outright, their second title in three years and the first undefeated conference season in history.
The Bucs now await word from the NCAA on regional bids which will be announced on Monday.
