Box Score TAMPA, Fla. -- In a match closer than the score might indicate, the Barry University volleyball team fell to the Tampa Spartans 3-0 earlier this afternoon in the NCAA South Regional Championship hosted by the University of Tampa. The Buccaneers fell in all three games 30-23, 30-27, and 31-29.

The Spartans came out on fire in the first game jumping out to an early 10-3 lead over the Bucs. The Buccaneers tried to fight back but were unable to overcome the Spartan force falling 30-23.

In game two, the Buccaneers took an early 17-11 lead only to see the momentum shift as the Spartans came back to tie the game at 18 apiece. Each team exchanged the next several points, but the Spartans were able to outlast the Bucs for the 30-27 win in the second game.

The final game could have quite possibly gone either way, but in the end the Spartans slipped past the Bucs 31-29 in game three to win the match and the NCAA South Regional Championship.

The Spartan defense held the Buccaneer offense in check allowing only Karla Bersano double-digit kills. She led the team with 11, while Rochelle Magill led the team with 15 digs. Bersano was also dubbed to the All-Tournament team.

Ania Ruiz paced the Spartans with 15 kills, while adding 12 digs. Amber Langston followed with 12 and Ericka Womack with 10. Tampa's Ruiz, Gretchen Naruta, Amber Langston, and Krissi McIntyre were also named to the All-Tournament team.

The Buccaneers end their season with an 18-9 overall record, while the Spartans improved to 27-6 and advance to the NCAA Elite Eight.
