Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Extending their current win streak to eight games, the Barry University women's volleyball team outlasted the Florida Southern Moccasins 3-0 earlier tonight at the Health & Sports Center. In a grueling Sunshine State Conference match, the Bucs won all three games 32-30, 30-27, and 30-14.
The Mocs challenged the 17th ranked Buccaneers in game one jumping out to an early 9-4 lead. Holding their ground for the majority of the game, the Bucs began chipping away at the deficit to eventually come out on top with a come-from-behind 32-30 victory.
Once again, the Mocs set up a challenge for the Bucs leading 7-2 early in game two. However, the Bucs went on a 9-2 run retaking the lead 11-9 and never losing it again for the 30-27 win.
The Buccaneers sealed the victory with a dominating performance of game three piercing the Moccasins 30-14. The Bucs stellar offensive performance resulted in hitting .485 as a team in the decisive game.
Karla Bersano collected 16 kills to lead the Buccaneer charge, while also registering a .279 attack percentage and four blocks.
Fernanda Ferreira followed with 12 kills and a match-high nine blocks, while
Daniela Lanza finished with five kills, 49 assists, and four blocks.
After recovering from shoulder surgery earlier in the year, senior outside hitter
Rochelle Magill posted her breakout performance of the season registering a season-high nine kills, a .350 attack percentage, and 11 digs.
Jenni Holste was the Moccasins leading offensive threat with 12 kills, a .320 attack percentage, and a team-high six blocks, while Pamela Stein followed with 11 kills.
The Bucs improved to 14-6 overall and 8-1 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Moccasins fell to 20-10 and 6-3 in the SSC. The Buccaneers have a week of preparation before taking the court again next weekend for a two-game road trip traveling to Eckerd and Tampa.
