Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- In a Sunshine State Conference match-up, the Barry University women's volleyball team blanked the Saint Leo Lions 3-0 earlier tonight at the Health & Sports Center. The Buccaneers won 30-22, 30-22, and 30-26.
The Buccaneers took an early lead in game one 8-4, but the Lions battled back to within one point. However, the Bucs regained their composure and set the cruise control to win the first game 30-22.
In the second game, the Buccaneers charged out of the gate with an 8-0 lead. After a timeout by Lion head coach Bill Lent to settle his team, the Lions fought to the rally, but the Bucs fended off the Saint Leo surge for another 30-22 win of game two.
The tides turned in game three with the Lions controlling the floor and taking an early lead. Once the game was tied at 12-12, the lead exchange hands several times before the Bucs overpowered the Lions for a come-from-behind 30-26 victory.
Karla Bersano collected 18 kills to lead all hitters and finished the match with a .353 attack percentage and a match-high 13 digs.
Fernanda Ferreira followed with 14 kills and four blocks, while
Daniela Lanza finished with nine kills, a .571 attack percentage, 46 assists and two blocks.
The Lions were paced by Christiana Florea with 13 kills on 28 attempts for a .321 attack percentage and one solo block. Nikki Prack led the Lions with 11 digs.
The win sealed the Bucs seventh consecutive victory and improved their record to 13-6 overall and 7-1 in the SSC, while the Lions fell to 13-14 and 3-5 in the SSC. The Buccaneers will resume action on Saturday, Nov. 2 hosting conference rival Florida Southern at 4 p.m.
