Women's Basketball Upsets #11 Rollins

Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University women's basketball team picked up where they left off last week upsetting the #11 Rollins College Tars 82-76 earlier tonight in Sunshine State Conference action.

The Buccaneers got off to a slow start down by six just three minutes into the game, but hit two back-to-back three-pointers to come back and tie. The Bucs then went on an 11-2 run with 5:19 remaining and were able to go into the half up 36-25. The Bucs built up their lead shooting 52 percent from the floor in the first half to the Tars' 30.8 percent.

In the second half, the Tars began to climb out of their slump to reclaim the lead 56-55 with 7:28 remaining. The teams began exchanging leads for the next five minutes of the half until the Tars tied the game 68-68 to send the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, the Buccaneers outscored the Tars 14-8 with Barry forward Jaida Williams scoring 8 of their 14.

Jaida Williams propelled her performance to an outstanding level leading the Buccaneers with a team-high 21 points and 20 rebounds. Amra Alagic added 16 points while Sanja Zivanovic and Yojana Rodriguez added 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Tars were paced by Kenya Storr with a game-high 23 points. Lindsay Woodcock added 17 points and Mary Lou Johnston and Shannon Pranger each chipped in 10 points.

The Buccaneers improved to 8-7 overall and 2-1 in the Sunshine State Conference while the Tars fell to 12-3 and 2-1 in the SSC. The Buccaneers will return to action in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Saturday, January 19 taking on SSC opponent Eckerd College at 5:30 p.m.
