Women's Soccer Drops to West Florida

Women's Soccer | 9/8/2001 1:42:00 PM

Box Score PENSACOLA, FLA. - After years of frustration, the West Florida women's soccer team finally got a measure of revenge by defeating the Barry Buccaneers 2-1 at the UWF Soccer Complex Friday night.

In the six previous meetings dating back to 1994, the Buccaneers held a 6-0 edge and had outscored the Argonauts 26-2.

Barry's Stephanie O'Brien scored an early goal, just seven minutes into the game, with an assist from Pam McDonald.

The Argonauts struck back with a goal by Roni McGinniss in the 33rd minute, scoring off a corner kick by Tawni Davis. McGinniss picked up the game-winning goal in the 59th minute off another corner kick, this time put into play by Jill Rice and also handled by Maria Mlynarski. The goals were McGinniss' first two goals of the 2001 season.

Barry, ranked third in the NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II national poll, drops to 4-1. West Florida improves to 3-0.
