Box Score TAMPA, Fla. - The Barry University volleyball team faced off with #10 University of Tampa on Friday night with high hopes. However, it was #8 Barry that came up on the short end, outlasted by the Spartans 3-1.
Behind the play of senior outside hitter
Rochelle Magill, the Buccaneers took game one from the Spartans 30-21. Magill led the Buccaneer charge hitting .625 in game one.
However, the tables turned in game two for the Buccaneers as the Spartans mounted a comeback hitting .379 to the Buccaneers .030 and winning 30-19.
Both teams appeared to be evenly matched in games three and four, but it was the Spartans who came out ahead of the Buccaneers 30-28 and 30-25.
The Buccaneers were paced by
Rochelle Magill (6-0, Sr, Florence, Ariz.) with 16 kills, a .294 hitting percentage, and 11 digs on the night while,
Karla Bersano (6-1, So, Sao Paulo, Brazil) added 13 kills and 13 digs.
Ania Ruiz led the Spartans' winning effort with 19 kills on 44 attempts and 15 digs.
The Buccaneers fell to 11-2 overall and 2-1 in Sunshine State Conference play while the Spartans improved to 11-2 and 3-0 in the SSC.
The Buccaneers will face off with Sunshine State Conference foe Eckerd College tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 29) at 11:00 a.m. The Buccaneers lead the Eckerd series 26 games to none.
