Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The #9 Barry University women's volleyball team rallied back late to defeat the #5 Tampa. The win also ended a five game losing skid over the three seasons to the Spartans
The Spartans got out to the early lead winning game one 30-23, but the Buccaneers bounced back to even things up winning game two 31-29. However, the Spartans took away the momentum winning game three 30-17. Down 2 games to 1, the hopes of winning looked dismal, but the Buccaneers bounced back late to win the final two games 30-21 and 15-8.
Coming off her season best performance against Eckerd, Simone Ferrerezi (Jr., OH, Sao Paulo, Brazil) led the late Buccaneer surge with a team high 19 kills, a .364 attack percentage, and 18 digs.
Three additional Buccaneers tallied double-digits in kills with
Karla Bersano (So., OH, Sao Paulo, Brazil) serving up 17 and
Fernanda Ferreira (So., MH, Sao Paula, Brazil) and
Rochelle Magill (Jr., OH, Florence, Ariz.) adding 15 a piece.
Daniela Lanza (So., S, Sao Paulo, Brazil) added a season high performance with 63 assists.
The Spartans were paced by Tiffany Boatwright with a 19-kill performance and Sandi Fox tallied 18 on the night.
The Bucs victory also halted the Spartans 36 match conference winning streak which started after the Buccaneers defeated the Spartans at Tampa on October 1, 1999.
The Buccaneers improved to 24-2 overall and 10-1 in the Sunshine State Conference while the Spartans fell to 23-3 overall and 10-1 in the SSC. The Buccaneers will return to action on Tuesday, November 6th hosting SSC opponent Lynn University at 7:00 p.m.
