Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Barry University volleyball team outlasted the University of North Florida 3-2 in region play early on Friday afternoon in the 25th annual Lady Moc Invitational.
The Buccaneers got off to a sluggish start and were unable to fend off the Ospreys attack dropping the first two games of the match 26-30 and 28-30. However, the Buccaneers were not about to lie down and give up.
In game three, the Buccaneers dominated play taking the game 30-16. Game four was a little more difficult, but the Buccaneers were able to hold on 34-32 to send the match into a fifth deciding game, in which the Buccaneers prevailed 15-9 for the match victory.
Leading the Buccaneer winning effort was
Karla Bersano (So., OH, Sao Paulo, Brazil) with a team high 21 kills and 18 digs.
Simone Ferrarezi (Jr. OH, Sao Paulo, Brazil) was a close second with 20 kills on 58 attempts. Setter
Daniela Lanza (So., Sao Paulo, Brazil) added a team high hitting percentage with .462 and 55 assists.
Jackie Struck paced the Ospreys with 23 kills on 53 attempts while Lauren Westervelt had a team high .410 hitting percentage.
The Buccaneers improve to 14-2 while the Ospreys fall to 12-5. The Buccaneers will be back in action on
Saturday, October 13th continuing play in the Lady Moc Invitational, facing off with Bentley College (Massachusetts) at 11:00 a.m. and Puerto Rico-Bayamon at 4:00 p.m.
