INDIANAPOLIS – The Buccaneers are headed back to the NCAA Division II Rowing Championship, released by the NCAA Rowing Committee on Monday. Barry University's varsity 8+ squad has earned an at-large bid to compete in the championships.
"We are super excited to be going back to the championships, especially for the seniors because it's going to be their fourth year in a row going," head coach Boban Rankovic said. "It is truly a privilege to go to this remarkable event and I couldn't be more proud of our team. The girls have all endured a number of uncontrollable obstacles along the way to getting here, but seeing how they were able to push forward has been amazing."
The team championship is composed of four teams, and each team is required to field one boat of eight rowers and one boat of four rowers. The teams selected were: University of California, San Diego, University of Central Oklahoma, Mercyhurst University and Western Washington University.
In addition to the four teams that qualify, two at-large Eights from institutions not represented in the team competition were selected. The Buccaneers were selected in addition to the crew from Florida Institute of Technology.
The championships will be held May 26-28 at Lake Mercer, located in West Windsor, New Jersey. The Ivy League and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference will serve as hosts.
