Dr. Kathy Ludwig became the second faculty athletics representative (FAR) in program history in the summer of 2023, taking over from Dr. Eileen McDonough who served in the role since the inception of the program. As the FAR, she is responsible for certifying initial eligibility for all new freshmen and transfer student athletes.
Ludwig has served in an administrative role for the Programs in Sport & Exercise Sciences programs since 2012, overseeing the addition of both undergraduate programs in Applied Sport & Exercise Sciences and the redesign of the graduate program in Human Performance & Wellness.
Ludwig teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses including theory of coaching, ethics, organizational leadership and management in SES, research methods, and advanced statistics. Dr. Ludwig's research interests in biomechanics also include examining the effect of fatigue on the muscle activity and joint moments during sidestep cutting, the relationship between leg extension power and rowing power output in female collegiate rowers, and the psychomotor skills and heading technique of men's and women's soccer players over a season of collegiate soccer.
She has been very active in University service over her years at Barry. She served as a Faculty Senator from 2006-2008, and as Faculty Senate Chair in 2009-2011. Ludwig earned a continuing contract in 2005 and promoted to Professor in 2019.
In addition to her role as FAR, she has also served on the broadcast team for the men's and women's soccer programs for over 10 years, as both a play-by-play announcer and color analyst.
Ludwig earned her Ph.D. in physical education with a specialization in biomechanics from Texas Woman's University. Her doctoral research in Biomechanics provided her the opportunity to continue her research interest in the biomechanics of soccer, particularly the skill of heading.
