Steve Hendricks was named the sixth head coach of Barry’s volleyball program in 2011. In nine seasons coaching the Buccaneers, Hendricks has a career record of 147-116.

The Bucs received their 16th bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2019, advancing to the regional in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2005 & 2006. They advanced to the regional finals and the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2004. Hendricks had his team play one of the toughest schedule in the country. The Bucs attended the Colorado Premier Challenge, played six matches against Top-20 teams and 16 matches versus teams that had received votes in the national poll. Along the way five Buccaneers were named All-SSC and Megi Buvinic and Kristina Filimonova received AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honors.
The 2018 season brought great success back to the volleyball program. Hendricks led the Buccaneers to a 29-4 record and a Sunshine State Conference championship. The season began with a 12-0 start, best in program history, and a finish in the NCAA tournament. Along the way Barry won the USC Aiken Tournament, Barry Classic and went 3-0 in the South Region Qualifier. Hendricks was awarded SSC Co-Coach of the Year, Megi Buvinic earned AVCA 2nd Team All-American, Audren Rose 3rd Team All-American, Kristina Filimonova and Anastasiia Samokhvalova received AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. Johanna Voss earned Google Cloud Academic All-American.
In 2017 under Hendricks, the Bucs went 10-15 overall and 6-14 in the Sunshine State Conference. Barry was 4-1 in neutral site matches, and had a three-match win streak during a stretch when it won five of six. The Buccaneers went 2-1 at the South Region Crossover. Kristina Filimonova earned honorable mention All-South Region honors, while picking up First Team All-SSC acclaim. She was also a College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District choice.
Barry went 16-14 overall, 7-9 in the SSC in 2016. The Bucs crept into the Top 10 in the NCAA South Region poll for the third straight year and fourth time in five seasons. The Buccaneers went unbeaten in its home tournament, the Barry University Classic, and had a 10-3 record at the Health & Sports Center. Barry swept six opponents during the season, and found itself entangled in nine five-set matches, winning three of them. Jaeda Allen was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-American. She was chosen as the SSC's Newcomer of the Year, while freshman Kristina Filimonova was the league's Freshman of the Year.
In 2015, Barry went 14-12, climbing into the Top 10 in the NCAA South Region poll. The Buccaneers went 8-8 in the SSC. The Bucs were 7-3 at home, which included a four-set win over No. 15 Florida Southern. Libero Brittany Jaco broke the school season record for digs with 599, and was chosen as a Third-Team All-American by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association and an Honorable Mention All-American by the AVCA.
In 2014, the Bucs went 17-12, narrowly missing the NCAA Tournament for the second time in Hendricks' tenure. Barry won six matches in a row late in the season to make a postseason push, climbing into the Top 10 of the South Region rankings. Tashalyn Begon was named a Second-Team All-SSC selection.
In 2013, Hendricks' team went 11-17 overall, 4-12 in the SSC. The Buccaneers beat No. 19 West Florida in four sets. Barry went 3-1 at the season-opening Ram Rumble tournament.
In 2012, the Buccaneers made great strides under Hendricks as his team went 17-13 overall, 9-7 in the SSC. The Bucs finished fourth in the league and were ranked No. 8 in the South Region at the end of the season. Barry beat No. 18 Lewis in five sets.
In his first year at Barry in 2011, Hendricks' team went 11-17, 3-13 in the SSC. Tania Torres was named to the SSC All-Newcomer Team.
Prior to Barry, Hendricks spent four years as an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico. While at UNM, Hendricks helped lead the Lobos to two NCAA Tournament appearances and a No.12 national ranking in attendance. He coached four AVCA All-Americans, one ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-American, and the team received two AVCA Team Academic awards. He was heavily involved in the community, including serving as a clinician for Special Olympics New Mexico, was a board member for the New Mexico Juniors Volleyball Club, and coached the age groups of 14s, 15s and 16s. In 2009, the New Mexico Juniors 15-1 team advanced to the national championship tournament in Miami.
Prior to New Mexico, Hendricks spent three seasons as an assistant at the University of San Francisco, where he helped the Dons to two of its best seasons in 2005 and 2006. While in San Francisco, his community involvement included leading a support group, "Friends and Family Members of Crystal Meth Users."
He spent eight seasons as the lead assistant coach at Notre Dame, a perennial Top 25 program. While in South Bend, Hendricks helped guide the Irish to eight consecutive NCAA Tournament berths and seven Big East Conference championships. The Irish won seven NCAA Tournament matches, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 1997. His recruiting acumen was validated when StudentSports.com rated the 2002 Notre Dame recruiting class No. 3 nationally.
In 2003, Hendricks took an administrative leadership role at St. Ignatius College Prep as Assistant Athletic Director. His duties included overseeing daily operations of the athletic programs and leading the girls volleyball program. While in the Chicago area, he also directed the USA Volleyball Great Lakes Region High Performance Team to a fourth place finish in the national tournament in 2003, and propelled Celtic Force Volleyball Club 17s (Palos Heights, Ill.) to the 2004 National Championship. In two seasons with Celtic Force, Hendricks posted a 52-3 overall record.
Hendricks began his coaching career after a standout playing career at Ball State University. As an outside hitter and defensive specialist for the Cardinals, Hendricks competed in three consecutive NCAA Final Fours from 1988-90. Hendricks’ first collegiate coaching experience came at Tennessee, where he served as a graduate assistant and interim head coach from 1990-92. This led him to two seasons at Eastern Michigan as an assistant coach from 1992-94.
Hendricks earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Ball State in 1990, and has two masters degrees, in sports psychology from Tennessee in 1992, and sport administration from New Mexico in 2011. He is a CAP Level II coach with USA Volleyball and a certified personal trainer through ISSA.
