Lindsay Shoop

Lindsay Shoop was named assistant rowing coach in August 2014. The former Olympic gold medalist is a member of the national rowing hall of fame.

Shoop, who helped lead the women’s 8+ to the gold medal at the 2008 Bejing Olympics, is a former rower from the University of Virginia. Shoop was joined on the crew by Erin Cafaro, Anna Goodale, Eleanor Logan, Anna Mickelson Cummins, Susan Francia, Caroline Lind, Caryn Davies, Mary Whipple Murray and were coached by Tom Terhaar. She was inducted into the National Rowing Hall of Fame in 2014.

Shoop was a two-time NCAA All-American while with the Cavaliers and then went on to win multiple medals as part of the U.S. National Team. A four-time World Rowing Championship competitor, Shoop was a part of the women’s eight that claimed gold three times (2006, 2007 and 2009) and also earned two gold medals, a silver and a bronze at World Rowing Cup regattas throughout her career. 

Following her rowing career, she first spent two years working as an open water rescuer for the City of Miami Beach Fire Department, Ocean rescue Division. She is EMT certified, a US Coast Guard Boat Captain (OUPV), Boat-Mate, Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard, and CPR, AED, and First Aid certified.

Since 2010, she has coached at various levels in Miami, including the Miami Beach Rowing Club and Pine Crest School as both varsity coach and program director.

Shoop earned her bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in art history from Virginia in 2003.
