Kern Pedersen

Kern Pedersen enters his 17th year at Barry University as an assistant coach in 2018-19. He brought over two decades worth of coaching and playing experience to the Buccaneers' staff.

His contributions to the coaching staff helped the Buccaneers capture the 2015, 2013 and 2010 NCAA Division II national titles. In 2013, the Bucs went 29-0 to win the NCAA Championship. Two years later, Barry went unbeaten again, going 26-0 to claim the national title. In 2017 and 2018, the Buccaneers finished as the national runner-up. Pedersen has been a part of five runner-up teams.

Pedersen served as the assistant coach at the University of West Florida for four seasons. While in Pensacola, Fla., the Argonauts claimed six of eight conference tournament championships.

Prior to joining Barry's coaching staff, he served as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Miami men’s team and as an assistant coach for Florida International women’s team.

Pedersen's collegiate coaching experience also includes five years each at the University of Notre Dame and Rice University summer tennis camps. He also worked camps at UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and Southern California for 10 years.

Born in Denmark, Pedersen has lived in Canada and in several United States cities. A former professional satellite player for two years, Pedersen’s coaching background includes five years at the high school level in California. He also coached 15 years for the Nike/ADIDAS Summer Tennis camps in California and at the Nunez Tennis Academy for three years. Additionally, he 
worked for the Harry Hopman International Tennis Academy in the early 1980s.

Pedersen offers tennis lessons in Key Biscayne, Florida.
