Juan Ranero returned for a second stint with the Buccaneer baseball program as head coach in 2017. He previously served as the Bucs' skipper from 2002-05.

The Bucs went 18-31 in 2022, 9-21 in the SSC. Danny Vazquez and Christian Lopez earned Academic All-South Region honors, while Joe Stella and Ihosvany Castaneda were named Second-Team All-SSC DH and outfielder respectively.
In 2021, Ranero led the Bucs to a 14-11 mark, 12-8 in the Sunshine State Conference, against all SSC competition. The Bucs finished third in the conference and Ben Terwiliger and Castaneda made the Second-Team All-SSC.
Ranero had the Bucs playing among the top teams in the nation in 2020, before the season was truncated by the pandemic. The Bucs set a record for consecutive wins to start the season, winning their first nine in a row. They closed the season by winning their last six. The Bucs broke into the national polls, climbing steadily until the end of the line. They ended the season ranked #7 by Collegiate Baseball and #10 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers (NCBWA).
Ranero led the Bucs back to a winning record in 2019, their first since 2014. Barry went 29-17 overall and 15-13 in the Sunshine State Conference. The Bucs posted season sweeps over Florida Southern and Lynn. It was the first sweep of the Mocs in program history. Chris Cabrera and Andrew Rapoza earned First-Team all-conference honors, while Hugo Casilla, who tied the school single-season save record, was named to the Second-Team. All three also earned All-Region honors, with Cabrera a consensus pick on all three teams. Justin Lamazares was named to the Academic All-Region team by Google Cloud/CoSIDA.
In 2018, the Buccaneers went 22-28 overall, 9-21 in the SSC under Ranero. Barry went 18-10 at home, securing the program's 600th victory at Feinbloom Field. The Bucs put together a season-best eight-game winning streak over the first two weeks of March to climb over the .500 mark. Barry posted a 17-8 win over No. 4 Florida Southern, which went on to compete at the NCAA Division II World Series. The Bucs also beat perennial power and 18th-ranked Nova Southeastern, 9-3, in the season finale at home. Outfielders Jonathan Quintana and Andrew Rapoza, and designated hitter Paul Salata earned Second-Team All-SSC honors. Quintana was drafted in the 31st round by the Washington Nationals.Â
In his return to Barry for a second stint, Ranero's 2017 team went 23-27 overall with a 10-14 record in the league. The Bucs were 15-13 at Feinbloom. They won six straight games during an early March stretch that included a doubleheader sweep at Embry-Riddle. Outfielder Julian Abreu was a Second-Team All-South Region selection by the National College Baseball Writers Association, following a season in which he hit .381 with 23 doubles, eight home runs, 37 RBI, 16 stolen bases and a .600 slugging percentage. Abreu also earned First-Team All-SSC honors.Â
Ranero spent the 2015 and 2016Â seasons at SSCÂ foe Eckerd, where the Tritons went 37-55. He won his 500th game with a 14-11 triumph over Florida Southern on April 18, 2015.
Ranero spent 14 seasons in two stints at Rowan, winning more than 350 games there from 1994-98 and 2006-14. He led the Profs to five straight trips to the NCAA Division III national tournament and won three New Jersey Athletic Conference coach of the year awards (1997, 2010, 2011). He was named the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Coach of the Year following the spring of 2013 and the Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 2014 by the ABCA.
At Barry, from 2002-05, he went 109-103-1 and mentored 13 All-SSC picks in four years and had six players sign professionally, including MLB draftees Joey Apotheker (2002) and Alex Meneses (2006).
Prior to his tenure at Barry, Ranero served as an instructor and head baseball coach at Westminster Christian School for two years. He compiled a 49-18 overall record and guided the Warriors to back-to-back District Championships.
Before his years at Westminster, Ranero served as a recruiting coordinator and pitching coach at at Old Dominion University, a Top-25 NCAA Division I baseball program in the 90s, and at Appalachian State.
Ranero graduated from Miami Dade Community College in 1987 with an associates of arts degree. He completed his undergraduate work at Florida State in 1989, earning a bachelor's degree in Movement Science and Physical Education. He earned his master's degree from Appalachian State in 1992 in Health Education/Sport Management.
He is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Ranero and his wife, Libby, have four children: Tori, Ashley, Ryan and JD.
