NCAA Infractions Case

In February 2018, Barry University conducted an internal audit of the University’s Federal Work Study Program and found that the reported hours for several men’s soccer players were incorrect which resulted in an internal investigation.  The Office of Athletic Compliance immediately self-reported the violation to the NCAA.  Following a more extensive review by the University and NCAA enforcement staff, the University determined that several men’s soccer players had received extra benefits from their work-study positions.

The NCAA and Barry University have agreed upon the following penalties: a $3,000 fine, a reduction of scholarships within the men’s soccer program, and a three-year probation from April 2019 through April 2022.

Beginning in fall 2018, the Barry University Athletic Department took several corrective actions regarding student-athlete participation in the Federal Work Study Program, including compliance education and monitoring.
