Baseball Clubs Lions To Take Series

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers clubbed the Saint Leo Lions 10-6 and 7-5 to sweep their Sunshine State Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday and win the series.

SUMMARY Game One:
Barry 10, SLU 6

  • T1 - Barry got started quickly in game one. Zavier Hatfield doubled to lead off the game and scored on a single by Anthony Tralongo. After a walk and an error to load the bases, Tralongo scored on a free pass to Josh Hungler by Lions starter Jake Rychter (0-1). Blake Opie scored on a sacrifice fly by Brady Blanks. | Barry 3, SLU 0
  • B1 - The Lions answered back with a single run in the bottom of the first. Thoma DeBro tripled and scored on a double by Dylan Mass. | Barry 3, SLU 1
  • B4 - Jake Carillo hit a solo homer with one out. | Barry 3, SLU 2
  • T6 - The Bucs staged a two-out-rally in the sixth. Dyson Joseph beat out an infield single, Hatfield singled to right and Tralongo was hit by a pitch. Jalen Smith drove in a pair with a single through the left side and Tralongo stole third and scored on an error by catcher Abrahan Rios. | Barry 6, SLU 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Mason Blocker (1-2) worked five innings in the first game to earn his first win of the year. He allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks and struck out four.
  • Tyler Venegas (3-0) went 4.2 innings in relief of starter Sean Driscoll to recieve the win in the second game. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk and struck out five.
  • Jake Rychter (0-1) and Matt Delph (0-3) took the losses for the Lions in games one and two, respectively.
  • Smtih went 5-for-10 with two doubles, two homers and seven RBI in the twin bill.
  • Hatfield was 6-for-10 with a double, homer, four runs and two RBI.
  • Hungler and Joseph each had three hits in game one.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs return to Feinbloom Field on Tuesday, to host a non-conference matchup with Nova Southeastern.
