Women's Soccer Picked Seventh In The SSC Pre-Season Poll

Bucs finished tied for seventh last year

ORLANDO -- The Barry Buccaneers were picked to stay seventh in the Sunshine State Conference women's soccer standings, after finishing tied for seventh last year.

Sunshine State Conference women's soccer coaches select Florida Tech as the preseason favorite to win the 2025 regular-season championship. With 97 points and seven first-place votes in the poll, the Panthers are favored to win the program's fourth regular-season championship, and third in a row.

Nova Southeastern is projected to finish second, as the Sharks picked up 88 points and three first-place votes. Rollins is third with 82 points, and Embry-Riddle is fourth with 75 points and the final first-place vote. Saint Leo rounds out the top five with 58 points. Eckerd lands in the center of the poll with 53 points and is trailed by Barry (41 points) and Lynn (40 points). Tampa (26 points), Palm Beach Atlantic (24 points), and Florida Southern (21 points) hold the final three positions in the poll.

Barry went 8-7-2 last season, 3-5-2 in the SSC. The Bucs tied Lynn with 11 points and entered the SSC Tournament as the eighth seed after the tiebreakers. The Bucs fell 2-1 in overtime to the top-seeded Florida Tech Panthers in the quarterfinals.

Kaitlin Conway, who led the team with six assists a year ago as a freshman, returns to lead 11 letter-winners back on the roster. In addition, the Bucs welcome 24 fresh faces, 10 transfers, 11 freshman and three red-shirts to the squad this fall. Barry has won a league-best 10 regular season titles and added three tournament championships since 2000.

Since administrators added women's soccer as a league sport in 1998, SSC teams have reached the national quarterfinals 13 times, the semifinals eight times, and the national title game three times, winning it all twice: Lynn in 1998 and Tampa in 2007.

The 2025 season opens on Thursday, September 4th, with eight teams in action. Conference play begins Saturday, September 20th, with eight teams in action. Florida Tech ranks 21st in the 2024 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II preseason women's poll, released on Thursday, July 31st.
