Men's Basketball | 7/11/2025 10:00:00 AM

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University men's basketball team completed the roster for the 2025-26 season with the addition of Deon Perry.

"Deon is the last piece to this year's class," head coach Justin Furr said. "When Trevor Quinn (HC at Our Lady of Mount Carmel HS, Deon's HS Coach) called, Deon immediately became a priority. He has been a double figure scorer, as well as an All-Conference player at the Division I level. His accolades on the court speak for themselves, but what attracted us most to Deon was his competitive character. In our talks, it became clear that winning is his primary focus. Deon's ability to score when needed but also make others around him better is what makes him special.  We are excited to coach Deon and welcome him and his mother, Shamiera, to BarryU."

A 5-8 guard, Perry spent his first three seasons playing for NCAA Division I programs, Loyola-Maryland and Fairfield. At Loyola Maryland, he was their starting point guard. In his freshman year, he started 29 of 33 games and averaged 11.4 points, two assists, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. He earned a spot on the All-Rookie team.

He broke out as a sophomore. In 29 games, 28 starts, he averaged a Patriot League-leading 17.3 points, and added three assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.5 steals. He capped his time at Loyola-Maryland with an All-Patriot League Second-Team selection.

He transferred his junior season to Fairfield in the Mid-Atlantic Conference. His role also changed as he came off the bench more. Playing in 32 games, with three starts, Perry still put up solid numbers, averaging 20 minutes, 8.4 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 rebounds per game. He also led the team in free throw percentage at 88.2 percent and is a career 90.5 percent free throw shooter.

"Barry feels like the right place to grow, learn, and thrive," Perry said. "It provides a unique opportunity to pursue my academic goals through real world applications. Being in Miami also offers a wealth of experiences and connections that will help shape my future. The connection I built with Coach Furr from day one of my process played a big role in my decision to come to Barry as well. After our conversations, it was obvious he had a plan for me, both academically and athletically."

The Buccaneers are coming off a 12-17 season and a Sunshine State Conference Tournament appearance.
