HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Ichabods grabbed an early lead as Moritz Pieper and Pavlos Parson shutdown Riccardo Trione and Yan Kodjoed 6-3 at #3 doubles.
- Barry came back to tie as Adam Lynch and Thomas Machado knocked off the nationally top-ranked pair of Matthew Earle and Tim Hammes 7-5 at the top flight.
- But with the doubles point on the line, #23 Tommy Cecchetti and Vaclav Schneider persevered in a tiebreaker 7-6(3) over #36 Gabriele Felline and Tim Reidel.
- The Bucs dominated the bottom flights, with Lynch and Ariel Meshulam winning in straight sets at five and six singles, respectively.
- But #33 Kodjoed got beat 6-4, 6-3 at #3 by #65 Parson and the other three singles matches all went to third sets.
- At the top flight, #38 Tirone pulled off a 6-1, 6-7(4), 6-3 win over fourth-ranked Hammes.
- But Felline fell, after winning the first set, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 to #8 Schneider at number two.
- With the match riding on the line, Riedel forced a third set at #4, but fell 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-5 to Cecchetti.
NOTEWORTHY:
- After winning four straight national titles and playing for the championship six straight years, Barry has now missed the national semifinals in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2004 and 2005.
- Lynch finished the season with an unblemished 13-0 mark in singles.
