ORLANDO, Fla. – Barry University freshman superstar, Valeriya Kozlova picked up her third Sunshine State Conference volleyball offense player of the week honor. The SSC weekly awards are presented by Pollo Campero and this was based on the performance for the week of October 27 to November 2. The Bucs have won five of the nine offensive honors this year. Kozlova becomes just the eighth Buccaneer volleyball player to earn three or more weekly honors in the same season, just the third to do it offensively since the split of categories in 2005.
Valeriya Kozlova continues to be the heart of the offensive attack for Barry. This week she had 36 kills over a two-match span, as the Bucs extended their win streak to four in a row. Kozlova averaged 5.14 kills per set and 6.50 points per set. The freshman had 14 digs for a 2.00 set average and seven blocks averaging one per set. Kozlova leads the conference in hitting percentage for non-middle blockers at .355. In the match versus Eckerd, Kozlova lifted Barry with 14 kills in the fourth set alone while hitting .333, that tied the total amount of kills the Tritons had in total for the set. Against Rollins she had just two attacking errors, swinging .476.
The Bucs will have a three match road stint this week, starting tomorrow at Palm Beach Atlantic with a 7:00 p.m. start time at Rubin Arena.
