KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Barry Buccaneers, riding off a double championship in the Sunshine State Conference last year, start the 2024 season ranked 11th in the United Soccer Coaches Pre-Season Poll.
Under head coach, Petsa Ivanovich, Barry went 13-5-1 last season, winning the SSC regular season title for the second year in a row at 9-1-0. They capped that with a 1-0 win over Florida Tech in the SSC Tournament Championship game and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bucs swept most of the major award in the conference with David Polanco earning Player of the Year, Iker Berruezo Defensive Player of the Year, Rafael Furlani Goal Keeper of the Year the coaching staff recognized as the Staff of the Year.
Barry takes on several other ranked programs in the 2024 season, starting with Limestone (ranked sixth) on Sept. 8 on the road. Arch-rival Lynn (ranked 19th) visits The Shores on Oct. 16 and Barry makes a trip to Melbourne, Fla., to take on Florida Tech (ranked third) in the season finale on Nov. 8.
In addition, Barry faces St. Thomas on Sept. 11 in Miami Gardens. The Bobcats ended the 2023 season ranked third in the NAIA.
The first match of the season pits the Bucs against the Anderson Trojans on Sept. 5.
