MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— Barry Rowing makes staffing changes ahead of 2024-25 season. Colin Regan will join as the ninth head coach in program history. He will be assisted by former Barry rower, Kyla Pullen.

"We are very excited to have Coach Regan join us here at Barry," stated Dr. Smith. "He brings a wealth of experience that we look to maximize in our rowing program as we elevate it back to a national competitor."

Regan comes to Miami Shores after a short stint at Southern Methodist University in 2023. At SMU, Regan was in charge of selecting the Varsity 4+ and supporting technical training for the 1V8 and 2V8. In just his first season, the Mustangs finished as American Athletic Conference champions and set a school record for highest finish at the NCAA National Championships, coming in ninth place.

"I feel great to be joining Barry University, there's no place like South Florida in the world! I'm excited and honored to join an athletic department with an exceptional history at the NCAA Championships," Regan said.

Prior to SMU, Regan served as an assistant coach at the University of Miami from 2017 to 2022. There he developed and implemented the full team training plan, established full team technical emphasis, produced daily practice plans, and daily coaching and selection of 1v/2v 8's.

"I want to develop a culture that enjoys training and values improvement. Since we will spend that majority of our time training and preparing for a single race next May, it's critical we learn to enjoy the process that will get us there," added Regan.

When looking ahead for the outlook of the season, Regan noted: "That is to be determined. But I do know one thing, we will do everything we can to be the best we can possibly be by May!"

Regan also had stints as a project manager and race director for Big Race Management, the assistant coach for the US Rowing Southeast ODP team in 2019, head U23 coach and other duties for the Vesper Boat Club, head coach and recruiting coordinator for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the head U19 and U17 men's coach for the Penn AC Rowing Club.

Kyla Pullen has been named the assistant coach. Pullen previously served as the graduate assistant under head coach Emily Stasi starting in the fall of 2023. Pullen rowed for the Bucs for two seasons from 2021-23. She was named All-SSC after the 2023 season, which honors the top-eight rowers in the conference. Her Varsity 8 boat placed second at the SSC Championships in 2023.

Pullen graduated from Barry with a bachelor's in biology and a minor in chemistry. She was placed on the Dean's list twice and the President's list four times.

Prior to becoming a Buccaneer, Pullen coached one year of high school rowing at Holy Rosary School in South Africa.
