MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The athletic department celebrated the Buckys 2.0 on Friday, July 15, awarding the final and major awards for the 2021-22 athletic season.

This is the first year that the awards have been split off from the main Bucky Awards, enabling the department to consider the whole season, as it had the past two years due to the pandemic.

Professor Neill L. Miller Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Alec Becker

Alec Becker

A junior, from Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, Alec Becker has a 3.968 GPA in management after transferring from UMass-Lowell. He played in 16 games, making six starts and scored one goal with one assist. He is the fourth winner from men's soccer since 2014-15.

Professor Neill L. Miller Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Cassandra Lee

With Cassandra Lee, a junior accounting major from Melrose Park, Ill., the softball team has produced the last three Female Scholar-Athletes and five of the last six. She has a 3.974 GPA and was a Second-Team All-Sunshine State Conference Utility Pitcher this past season.
   

Male Athlete of the Year

AJ Ewart

AJ Ewart

AJ Ewart became just the second NCAA Division II player to win the prestigious GolfStat Cup, as the junior from Coquitlam, British Columbia won seven tournaments this season, including four straight and six of the last seven. He led NCAA Division II with a 69.48 scoring average and became the third Buccaneer, after former Barry Athletes of the Year Adam Svensson (2014) and Jorge Garcia (2019), to be named the Jack Nicklaus DII National Player of the Year. He tied Svensson for career wins with 10 and has another year left.

Female Athlete of the Year

Alice Gotbring

Alice Götbring

Alice Götbring, a junior from Vaxholm, Sweden, won five tournaments in 2021-22, including the SSC Championship, tying the school single season record set by Tilda Larsson in 2017-18. She finished as runner-up three times in her remaining five tournaments and has posted a Top-2 finish in five of her last six events. Götbring tallied an 833-0 comparative record this season, including 24-0 against Top-25 and 99-0 against Top-100 opponents. Her 72.79 scoring average is the best in Division II this year. Götbring currently ranks 250th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).
