JV Baseball Pounds Atlantis In First-Ever Game

Barry got the JV era off in grand fashion

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers got their junior varsity baseball era off to a flying start with a 15-5 pounding of  Atlantis JV at Feinbloom Field on Tuesday afternoon.

SUMMARY:

  • B1 - The Bucs jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning. Danny Garcia doubled to left center and Gian-Michael Dominguez cashed him in with a sharp single up the middle. | Barry 1, Atlantis 0
  • B3 - The Bucs sent 11 men to the plate in the third, scoring six runs and breaking the game open. Yovan Ayes led off with a double and Garcia drew a walk. After a single by Vincenzo Macolino drove in Ayes, Dominguez bounced a ground-rule Double over the wall in left.Back-to-back errors by the Atlanteans accounted for two more runs. Andrew Perez knocked the Bucs' third double of the inning and Jared Ward drove in the final run with a ground out. | Barry 7, Atlantis 0
  • B4 - Barry batted around and plated six more runs in the fourth. Garcia doubled and Macolino and Dominguez followed with walks to load the bases. Lee-Anthony Santiago knocked in two with a single to right. Chris Meilan followed with an RBI single down the right field line and Bubba Hagen tripled over the head of the right-fielder to cap the inning.  | Barry 13, Atlantis 0
  • T6 - The Atlanteans finally got on the board in the sixth. The Bucs' Sebastian Garrido walked the bases loaded and the Bucs made two errors behind him for four runs. | Barry 13, Atlantis 4
  • T7 - The Atlanteans got another run without a hit in the seventh. After a hit batter, a thorwing error allowed the runner to come all the ay around. | Barry 13, Atlantis 5
  • B7 - The Bucs walked it off in the bottom of the seventh, however. Garcia got it started again with a lead-off walk and quickly swiped two bases. After a walk to Cam McDuffy, both runners moved up on a balk. The Atlanteans walked the bases loaded, including an intentional walk to Tony Torres. But Chris Romero drove in McDuffy with a long fly ball to right and the Bucs won on the mercy rule. | Barry 15, Atlantis 5 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Johnny Vazquez (1-0) worked four strong innings for the Bucs to earn the win. He allowed no hits and three walks and struck out five.
  • Chris Churchman (0-1) took the loss for the Atlanteans. He gave up seven runs (four earned) on seven hits, a walk and a hit batsman in 2.1 innings.
  • Garcia was a monster at teh plate for the Bucs, going 3-for-3 with two walks. He had three doubles, stole three bases and scored four runs.
  • Santiago drove in three for Barry, while Dominguez and Hagen each knocked in a pair. 
  • Seven of the Bucs 12 hits went for extra-bases.
  • Chad Baker, Garrido and Christian Muniz combined with Vazquez on the no-hitter.

The Bucs host Elev8 Academy on Wednesday, Feb. 9.
