SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Buccaneer rowing team finished the Sunshine State Conference Championship in second place in regatta points after coming in as the runner-up in the Varsity Eight and fourth in the Varsity Four. The Bucs got off to a hot start in the four, vying for the lead for a good portion of the race before an extremely close sprint at the finish line that saw them finish in fourth. This year's championship featured one of the deepest in the history of the tournament and showcased the development of rowing in the SSC.Â
In addition to the conference championship, the SSC also announced their all-conference and all-freshman team. Alejandra Alonso and Alexandra Kalinowski both were named members of the all-conference team while Janika Koelbin received all-freshman honors.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
"This was one of the more competitive SSC Championships that we have seen in a while, and it really showcased the depth of our conference. Four boats within five seconds of each other in the V4 is a good thing for this conference. We made up more time on FIT, and made another push for a spot at NCAA's I think."-- Head coach Nick Johnson
"Today definitely showed how much more competitive this conference has gotten. At this point, we can put the conference behind us, focus on finding more speed before our final race and make a last push for that NCAA spot."-- Assistant coach Travis Day
