BREAK OUT THE BROOMS: Bucs Sweep SSC Series From Knights

Second sweep of the season for the Bucs, first time since 2013

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers rallied for a pair of come-from-behind wins over arch-rival Lynn on Saturday to sweep their Sunshine State Conference baseball series at Feinbloom Field. The Bucs won game one 10-8 and game two 9-7.

SUMMARY:
GAME ONE:

Barry came back from down 6-3 in game one after the top of the fourth.

  • T1 - James Buckley and Tom Archer both walked to start the inning. Buckley scored on a single by Alec Ojeda and Archer came home on a bases loaded walk by Joe Argumedo. | Lynn 2, Barry 0
  • T2 - Archer singled up the middle with two outs and moved to third on an error. Both Archer and Ojeda scored on another error. | Lynn 4, Barry 0
  • B2 - Chris Cabrera and Andrew Rapoza both reach on errors sandwiched around a single by Reuben Pino, which brought in one run. Ariel Diaz ripped a single down the left field line to score two more and cut the lead to one. | Lynn 4, Barry 3
  • T3 - Ben Fagan singled to left to lead off the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Buckley. | Lynn 5, Barry 3
  • T4 - Alejandro Martinez crushed a solo homer to left center to lead off the frame. | Lynn 6, Barry 3
  • B4 - Deyvid Silva blasted a homer down the left field line, scoring Rapoza, who had singled. | Lynn 6, Barry 5
  • B5 - JC Garcia drew a lead off walk and scored on a fly ball by Cabrera to tie the game. Barry 6, Lynn 6
  • B6 - Silva singled and Diaz walked to lead off the inning, but both were erased on the bases. But with two outs and Joel Alvarez at first, Garcia walked and Freddie Matos was hit by a pitch by Connor Davis to load the bases. Lamazares then sent a 2-1 pitch from Davis deep over the scoreboard in left for a grand slam and a Barry lead. | Barry 10, Lynn 6
  • T7 - Luis Beltran had a base hit with one out and Buckley hit a homer to center, trimming the lead to two. | Barry 10, Lynn 8
  • T9 - Hugo Casilla walked Anthony Sanabria to start the frame, but got Beltran to bounced into a double play. After another walk to Buckley, he got another ground ball from Archer to end the game. 

SUMMARY:
GAME TWO:

Barry trailed 7-1 after the top of the sixth before rallying for eight unanswered runs.

  • T2 - Ojeda, who reached on an error, and Argumedo, who walked, both scored on wild pitches from Barry starter Nick Vanderhoef. | Lynn 2, Barry 0
  • B2 - Rapoza singled with one out and Richie Sobalvarro knocked a single through the left side to drive him in. | Lynn 2, Barry 1
  • T4 - Sanabria smacked an RBI double and scored on a sacrifice fly from Shayne Fontana | Lynn 4, Barry 1
  • T5 - Argumedo crushed a two-run homer to left off the face of the scoreboard. | Lynn 6, Barry 1
  • T6 - Tanner Alvarado hit a leadoff homer to left. | Lynn 7, Barry 1
  • B6 - Pino walked and moved to second on a passed ball. Diaz delivered the run with a single up the middle. | Lynn 7, Barry 2
  • B7 - The Bucs sent 11 men to the plate, scoring six runs to take the lead. Alvarez homered to left to lead off in inning. Garcia walked and Lamazares was hit by Anthony Masiello. After a wild pitch, Cabrera followed with a two-run double to right center and was replaced by pinch runner Bran Socorro. A single by Pino put runners on the corners and Rapoza doubled to knock in Socorro. Pino scored on a sacrifice fly by Silva to tie the game. Rapoza scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Alec Hernandez. | Barry 8, Lynn 7
  • B8 - Socorro, who walked and stole second, scored on a fly ball from Rapoza for an insurance run. 
  • T9 - Making his season debut, Anthony Boix got the save. Despite giving up a double and having a batter reach on an error, he struck out Argumedo and pinch hitter Cal Bocchino and got Sanabria to fly out to right to end the game. | Barry 9, Lynn 7

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Erislandy Rives (2-0) got the win in game one. In 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, he allowed two hits and struck out three. Casilla recorded his sixth save with a scoreless ninth.
  • Anthony Gutierrez (3-0) worked two innings in game two. Despite giving up a homer to the first batter he faced, he settled down and allowed only one more hit and no runs, while striking out two. Boix earned his first save.
  • Victor Danza (0-2) was tagged with the loss in game one. He allowed two runs on one hit and a walk in 1.2 innings. Hernandez (2-1) took the loss in the night cap. In two-thirds of an inning, he allowed two runs on two hits and two walks to the six batters he faced.
  • The Lynn bullpen was victimized for 11 runs on 10 hits and six walks in six innings of work on Saturday. They allowed two homers and three doubles and also hit three batters.
  • Rapoza led the Bucs with four hits, including a double, four runs and also drove in three. Matos, Silva and Lamazares all had three hits, with Silva, Diaz and Cabrera driving in three and Lamazares four on his grand slam. 
  • Beltran, Buckley and Argumedo each had three hits for the Knights. Buckley and Argumedo, who both homered, each drove in three. 
  • The sweep was the second of the season for the Bucs, having previously swept Florida Southern on the road. The last time the Bucs swept two series in a season was 2013 when they swept Saint Leo and Eckerd.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host the fifth-ranked Tampa Spartans next weekend.
