Softball Splits DH with PBA; Takes Series 2-1

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Buccaneers split their double-header against Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday at Buccaneer Field after taking game one of the series on Tuesday night 2-0. Barry dropped the first of two today vs. the Sailfish 5-1, but took the second winning by the final score of 6-2.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Game One Final: PBA 5, Barry 1
Game Two Final: Barry 6, PBA 2
Records: Barry (8-8, 3-3 SSC), PBA (6-8, 2-4 SSC)
All-Time Record: Barry leads 32-24

WHAT ARE THEY SAYING:
"We call it organized chaos," Bucs second baseman Ayana Andrade-Zygmunt said after she drew a walk and stole second, duping the PBA pitcher to throw to second allowing Courtney Chisolm to steal home. "We like to make things happen," Andrade-Zygmunt added.

Both AJ (Andrea Johnson) and Gabby Vallee keep getting better and better," Bucs head coach Sean Cotter said. "When you have good pitching, you always have a chance to win. It's exciting to see our freshman do the things they're doing. Every weekend, every series we play, we get better. I thought it was really critical to see Lynsey Duncan get hits with runners in scoring position. We're starting to see Peyton Rawls come back and play well. So we're getting contributions from our upperclassmen as well," Cotter said.

SUMMARY:
Game One

  • T1 - PBA manufactured a run and took the lead right away. | PBA 1, Barry 0
  • B1 - The Bucs would answer right back after back-to-back singles by Duncan and Berlin Colvin. Colvin hit a chopper to the left side beating the throw by the PBA short-stop easily, but the throw sailed and allowed Duncan to round third and give the Bucs what would be their only run of the game. | Barry 1, PBA 1
  • T2 - The Sailfish would take the lead right back after finishing the second with two runs on two hits. | PBA 3, Barry 1
  • T4 - PBA would add another run on a wild pitch by Johnson. | PBA 4, Barry 1
  • T6 - In a wild run down, the Sailfish would tack on another insurance run. PBA was able to get a runner across home plate before the Sailfish runner was tagged out at second by Adrade-Zygmunt.

SUMMARY:
Game Two

  • T3 - Valle had her streak of 16-straight scoreless innings snapped in the third inning after a PBA base-hit followed a triple down the right-field line for the Sailfish. | PBA 1, Barry 0
  • B3 - The Bucs got on the board when Duncan hit a liner over the center-fielders head scoring Andrade-Zygmunt. |  Barry 1, PBA 1
  • B4- 'Organized chaos' began in the fourth when Savannah Starling reached base on an error by the PBA second-baseman. Starling would steal second and reach third after a base-hit by Chisolm. During Karla Santiago's at-bat, Chisolm stole second and both Starling and Chisolm tagged when Santiago hit a sacrifice fly to right field. RBI's by Andrade-Zygmunt and Duncan capped Barry's three run inning. Barry 4, PBA 1
  • B5 - An RBI by Starling scored Rawls from second, but Starling would be tagged out trying to take third on the throw to home. Barry 5, PBA 1
  • B6 - The last Buccaneer run was induced by Andrade-Zygmunt after she drew a walk. She turned first base with intentions to steal second. Chisolm was already at third base and bolted home when the PBA pitcher decided to throw to second and try to pick-off Andrade-Zygmunt. Barry 6, PBA 1

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Vallee is 3-0 with a .067 ERA in her last three starts. She went the distance in all three games and recorded complete game shutouts in 2-of-3. She allowed just two runs in 21 innings.
  • Duncan hit safely in all three games against PBA going 4-for-10 with two RBI. She has recorded a hit in the last 10-of-12 games for the Bucs.
