Baseball Sweeps Tars

Bucs take SSC series three games to none

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Break out the brooms! It was an Sunshine State Conference baseball sweep for the Barry Buccaneers on Saturday as they knocked out the Rollins Tars 7-2 and 6-2 at Feinbloom Field.

It was the first SSC series sweep for the Bucs this season.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • B1: The Bucs jumped out early in game one with a two-out rally in the first. Jonathan Quintana singled and Ryan Baldwin followed with a home run over the center field wall. | Barry 2, Rollins 0
  • B2: Barry tacked on another run in the second. Joel Alvarez walked and scored on a single by Andrew Rapoza. | Barry 3, Rollins 0
  • B3: Baldwin was at it again in the third. After Justin Lamazares walked, he crushed another two-run homer over the wall. | Barry 5, Rollins 0
  • B5: Barry got two more runs in the fifth. After a Baldwin double, Richie Sobalvarro reached on an error. Baldwin scored on a wild pitch by James Doherty and Sobalvarro scored on a ground out by Paul Salata. | Barry 7, Rollins 0
  • T9: The Tars finally dented the scoreboard in the ninth. Nick Breen hit a solo homer, while Nick Santucci tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly. | Barry 7, Rollins 2

Game 2

  • T2: The Tars put two on with two out in the second. Ted Meissner delivered a base hit to score Grant Ashline, but Andrew Rapoza prevented any further damage by hosing Santucci at the plate. | Rollins 1, Barry 0
  • B2: The Bucs responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Sobalvarro and Salata had singles with one out. When shortstop Brian Brooker booted a ground ball by Arrison Perez, Sobalvarro scampered home. Salata then scored on a single bby Sebastion Dayoub and Alvarez knocked in Perez with a single to left. | Barry 3, Rollins 1
  • B3: In the third, Lamazares drew a lead off walk and scored on another Tars wild pitch. | Barry 4, Rollins 1
  • B5: Lamazares drew another lead off walk and Quintana singled. Lamazares took third on the play and Quintana moved up on the throw. After a an odd double play that erased Lamazares, Quintana scored on a single by Sobalvarro. | Barry 5, Rollins 1
  • B7: The Bucs loaded the bases with one out and Quintana scored on a sacrifice fly by Salata. | Barry 6, Rollins 1
  • T8: Bryce Peterson singled and stole second. He scored on a hit by Grant Ashline.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Blaine Duncan (3-0), also picked up the Friday night win in relief, got the win in game one. He pitched the fourth inning after replacing Nick Bralczyk, who left with a 5-0 lead, and faced just three batters, getting all three outs on the ground.
  • Anthony Gutierrez worked the final five innings to earn an improbable save. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk and struck out four. 
  • Cameron Enck (2-6) was hung with the loss for the Tars. He allowed five runs on six hits and two walks in three innings.
  • In game two, it was reliever Jonathan Hernandez who got the win. He worked 4.1 innings, allowing a run on six hits. He struck out three but did not walk a batter. 
  • Caleb Jakes (0-3) took the loss for Rollins. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in two innings.
  • Baldwin, who had three hits in game one, and Sobalvarro, who had three in game two, led the Bucs at the plate with four hits each.
  • The Tars have now lost 16 games in a row.

ON THE HORIZON:

Buccaneer Baseball travels to Daytona Beach, Fla., from April 27-28 to battle Embry-Riddle in conference play for the first time.
