MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Hannah Seizer had to dig deep. But the more she dug, the better she got.
That was the case for the No. 4 Buccaneers women's tennis team, who handed 15th-ranked Florida Southern an 8-1 setback Saturday at Buccaneer Tennis Center to remain perfect overall and in Sunshine State Conference play. A dig deep theme ran throughout in this one to begin a last-week season stretch, where Barry will have to continue to keep purge if they hope to find the pot of gold at the end of the league tunnel.
The Bucs pulled out two third-set super tiebreakers in singles, and led in every match -- including the No. 3 position when Zuza Maciejewska retired with a 4-1 advantage. Barry also overcame a little adversity in doubles, bouncing back from a couple deficits to post another pairs sweep.
"We didn't feel really well in the first few games, but we picked it up, and we fought hard," said Seizer, who overcame a pair of holes in both of her singles and doubles matches to post victories.
Barry's 16th pairs sweep of the season gave way to some singles confidence, and the Bucs rose to the occasion on the six individual match courts to put the match away.
"We felt really comfortable, everyone I think," Seizer said. "I didn't feel really well in the first set ... but I picked it up in the second one and in the match tiebreak."
That she did, using a better approach in coming to the net to put away winner after winner late in a grueling match with Selin Devrimci.
"We were practicing a couple days coming to the net to finish the point, so I tried my best to do it," Seizer said, "and yeah, it worked out."
