YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. -- The Barry men's soccer team put together a stellar all-around effort to capture the 2-1 victory over the eighth-ranked Lander Bobcats on Sunday, Nov. 18 in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Bucs will now advance to the NCAA Semifinals, just two games away from possibly being crowned national champions.

SUMMARY:
- 17' | Marco Sordi recorded a pair of saves and an excellent punch out off a corner kick to keep Lander off the board.
- 39' | After Francisco Greco drew a foul just outside the penalty area, the Bucs sent Lucas Russo out to take the free-kick. The Brazilian struck an excellent shot right into the top-right corner of the goal past the full extension of Bearcat keeper Jacob Withers to put the Bucs on the board 1-0.
- 48' | Aday Gonzalez almost converted on another set piece from a tough angle but Withers made the save in a crowded box.
- 68' | Fran Greco threaded the needle to James Kirkham who sent a cross to the backpost where Luca De Biase sent a low-strike into the bottom-left corner to convert the second goal of the day for the Bucs.
- 84' | Lander's Sia Jameder knocked in a header off of a corner kick to bring Lander within one goal.
NOTEWORTHY:
- This upcoming appearance in the NCAA Semifinals will be only the third in school history with the last one coming in 2000. The Bucs hosted the 1999 and 2000 NCAA Finals.
- Marco Sordi put together another excellent game for the Bucs, making six saves and only giving up a goal on a corner kick that was deflected twice in its path to the net.
- Despite the score, Lander out shot Barry 15-9 and also held an advantage with shots on goal by a 7-5 margin.
- The Bearcats, the number three scoring defense in the country, seven goals all season, coming into the game.
ON THE HORIZON:
The Bucs advance to the NCAA Division II Fall Sports Festival in Pittsburgh, Pa., Nov. 29 through Dec. 1. The Bucs will face off against 11th-ranked Fort Hays State out of Kansas in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 11:00 am. It is the first-ever meeting with the Tigers.
