Volleyball Grinds Out Win at FIT

Bucs meet ERAU Saturday in Daytona Beach

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Barry University's volleyball team picked up a win in its first Sunshine State Conference match of the season Friday, beating host Florida Tech, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-22.

It was Barry's first match since Sept. 1 after Hurricane Irma forced a three-week break in the schedule.

SUMMARY:

  • Barry took a 15-10 lead in the second set when Jaeda Allen banged down a kill. Florida Tech rallied to take a 19-18 lead, but the Bucs used a 7-0 run to close out the set and tie the match at 1-1. Brittany Reynolds' kill and Gabriela Jansen's ace put an end to the set.
  • Reynolds whipped up an ace to give Barry a 14-10 lead in the third. Jansen added another ace to extend the Bucs' lead to 21-15. Reynolds had a kill to make it 23-17. Following a Panthers' setting error, FIT cut it to 24-20 on a kill by Audrey Keenan. But Reynolds hammered home a kill to give Barry a 2-1 lead in the match.
  • The Bucs tied it up at 18-18 on a kill by Kristina Filimonova in the fourth set to trigger a 5-0 run for a 22-18 lead. The Panthers drew within 23-20 on a pair of Barry errors, but Allen sent a rocket to the floor to move the Bucs within match point. After two Barry errors cut the gap to 24-22, an FIT hitting error ended the match.
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Allen had 12 kills, 23 digs and two blocks. Allen's 23 digs is a career high.
  • Reynolds had nine kills and 11 digs.
  • Johanna Voss had eight kills.
  • Juliana Tirabassi had 22 assists. Jansen had 14 digs and two aces.
  • The fourth set featured 13 ties and five lead changes.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs will play at Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach at 4 p.m. Saturday.
