Vlatkovic Named Rowing Assistant Coach

Former grad assistant takes over permanent role

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Martina Vlatkovic was named assistant coach of Barry University's rowing team, as announced by Director of Athletics Michael L. Covone.

Vlatkovic spent the past two seasons as the Buccaneers' graduate assistant coach. In 2016, she was part of a staff that helped Barry win its second straight NCAA Division II championship. She was responsible for developing the novice crew and assisting with the varsity team practices.

"I want to thank Mike Covone and Bridget Lyons for believing in me and giving me this opportunity," Vlatkovic said. "I am extremely happy to continue my coaching career here at Barry. I can't wait to take the next step with this great group of returning and new rowers, and help them achieve their goals as students and athletes."

From 2010-15, Vlatkovic was an assistant coach with the Jadran Rijeka Rowing Association in Rijeka, Croatia. She was the sweep and sculling coach for varsity and novice teams. Vlatkovic also assisted the men's senior 2+ crew that won a gold medal at the Croatian National Championship Regatta in 2014, while the men's junior varsity 8+ and JV 2- won silver medals in 2013.

Vlatkovic was an All-American rower at Dowling in 2007. She rowed for four years at Dowling. She also rowed for the Croatian National Team from 2000-03.

Vlatkovic earned a bachelor's degree in business administration at Dowling in 2007. She earned a master's degree in public administration from the University of Kansas in 2009. She earned a master's in movement science from Barry in 2017.
