Barry Rowing Adds Two More For The 2017-18 Season

Michelle Etchebaster

There have already been nine new signees that were announced earlier this month by Johnson.

The tenth new signee for the Barry squad is Michelle Etchebaster. Michelle hails from Mendoza, Argentina, where she rows for Club Mendoza de Regattas. Since graduating from high school, Michelle has spent some time at an Argentinian university, and some time training at a much higher level of rowing.

"We are excited about having her and her experience in Miami Shores," Johnson said. "She has spent a lot of time in small boats and brings a ton of technique with her to our program here at Barry University."

Tinei Suitonu

The final signee as of now is Tinei Suitonu, an incoming freshman from San Diego. Suitonu rowed for the Dons of Cathedral Catholic HS in California. Tinei only started rowing recently after having a great volleyball career at her high school, but caught Barry's attention with the success she has been having in rowing.

"Coach Sloate has been doing a great job with Tinei and she has a bunch of talented athletes around her to learn from," Johnson said. "We know she's already quite strong, and she's only going to improve even more when she gets to campus."

Tune in to watch Barry University take part in the NCAA DII Rowing Championships taking place in West Windsor, New Jersey this upcoming weekend. The Bucs hit the water at 11:24 Friday morning to start competition.
