Bucs close semester on eight-game winning streak

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccanneers overcame a slow start to run away from the Skidmore Thoroughbreds 74-45 on Monday in the Health & Sports Center as part of the Hoop MIA Classic.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The first quarter was very close and was tied until Harriet Swindells hit one of her patented buzzer-beaters to give the Bucs the lead at the first break. | Barry 15, Skidmore 12
  • 2Q - From the start of the second period, it was all Bucs as Barry scored the first 12 points of the period to take a 27-12 lead on another three-pointer by Swindells at the 6:02 mark. The Thoroughbreds never got closer than 13 the rest of the way. | Barry 35, Skidmore 21
  • 3Q - The Bucs shot 56.3 percent from the floor in the third period to push the lead out to as many as 26. Ayida Peters' layup with 2:26 left in the period gave the Bucs a 54-28 lead. | Barry 56, Skidmore 31
  • 4Q - The Bench continued to pour things on in the final frame. Jada Francois-Lubin hit a three-pointer with 3:21 remaining for a 35-point lead, 73-38.  | Barry 74, Skidmore 45

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Swindells, with 17 points, paced four players in double figures, but 12 of the 14 Bucs who played scored in the game. 
  • Ida Andersson had 14 points, while Kiara Palmer and Juhnae Richardson each chipped in 10. Palmer saw her streak of double-doubles end with just nine rebounds, though she played only 19 minutes.
  • Skidmore All-American Kelly Donnelly paced the Thoroughbreds with 13 points. Veronica Moceri added nine.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs are now off for Christmas break until Dec. 30 when they travel over to Nova Southeastern for a key conference tilt.
