Women's Soccer Falls To #13 Nova Southeastern

Bucs drop overtime heartbreaker

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost their first Sunshine State Conference women's soccer game, 2-1 in overtime, to the 13th-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks on Wednesday night at Buccaneer Field.

SUMMARY:
FIRST HALF:

  • The Bucs came out strong in the first half, putting six of seven shots on goal, including the first tally of the night in the 14th minute by Amanda Traynor.
  • Traynor took a feed from Christy Grimshaw and rifled a shot over the out-stretched hands of NSU keeper Jordan Lentz from the left side.
  • The only shot the Bucs did not have on goal came from Grimshaw, who hit the crossbar.
  • Barry held a 7-5 edge in shots, including 6-1 on goal.

SECOND HALF:

  • The tide turned in the second half, as the Sharks offense came alive. NSU out-shot the Bucs 13-5 in the second half, including 6-2 on goal.
  • Emma Heikka scored the equalizer in the 81st minute with a 30-yard shot into the top right corner that just eluded Barry keeper Melanie Ziegner.

OVERTIME:

  • In the overtime, the Sharks had the only two shots.
  • Heikka assisted Sofia Del Stabile on the game winner in the 94th minute.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Ziegner took the loss as her 409-minute scoreless streak came to an end. She allowed two goals and had six saves.
  • Lentz picked up the win for the Sharks. She allowed a goal for the seventh time in eight games, but had seven saves.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs travel to play Tampa on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Pepin Stadium at 7:00 pm.
