Volleyball Sweeps Notre Dame de Namur

Bucs bring 3-1 record back to Barry University Classic next weekend

BELMONT, Calif. -- Barry University's volleyball team finished off the Route 92 Showdown with its second sweep Saturday. The Buccaneers beat host Notre Dame de Namur, 25-22, 25-21, 25-18.

The Bucs (3-1) will host the Barry University Classic Friday and Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. Friday at Health & Sports Center. 

Jenny Trinidad gave the Bucs a 14-10 lead in the first set when she served an ace, prompting a Notre Dame timeout. The Bucs had eight aces. 

The Argonauts (1-3) rallied to take a 15-14 lead. But Eva Raat's kill tied the score at 17-17 en route to a four-point run that pushed the Bucs in front. Jaeda Allen's ace made it 22-18, and Barry held on to take the opening set. 

The Bucs hit .324 in the second set. Genesis Castillo's kill put Barry ahead 10-6. The Argos ran off the next four points to tie it. Ivana Didanovic put down a kill to force a sideout, and the Bucs never trailed the rest of the set. Notre Dame pulled within 16-15, but Raat banged down a ball on one of Trinidad's 16 assists one serve later. Allen fired off two of her four aces to push the Bucs lead to 21-16. Kaitlin Drake put the match away with a kill.

Allen finished with nine kills, nine digs and two blocks. Raat had nine kills, four blocks and hit .316. Drake, Didanovic and Castillo each had six kills. Didanovic had five blocks. Juliana Tirabassi had 12 digs and 12 assists. 

The Bucs converted 39 of 62 sideouts for 62 percent. Barry hit .232. Notre Dame de Namur converted 51 percent of its sideouts, and had a .080 attack percentage.
