No. 11 Men's Basketball Holds Off FSC, 106-99

Buccaneers win for just fifth time in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. – Barry men's basketball team won for just the fifth time at Jenkins Field House, beating host Florida Southern, 106-99, Saturday night.

The 11th-ranked Buccaneers won for the second time in three meetings in Lakeland, scoring 100 points for the second time this season. It was the most points the Bucs have scored this year.

SUMMARY:

  • Barry shot over 50 percent for the sixth time this season.
  • The Bucs had over 20 assists for the seventh time this year.
  • Four starters scored in double figures for the fifth time this year. Barry is 4-1 in those games. Five total Bucs reached double figures.
  • Barry trailed by five with 11:40 remaining, but Marko Tomic scored at the 10:33 mark to tie it, 71-71. After Florida Southern went ahead again, Kenan Guzonjic scored to give the Bucs the lead back with 9:28 left.
  • The Mocs regained control twice more – the latter an 82-79 lead at the 5:47 mark. Elvar Fridriksson's triple 33 seconds later tied it for the fifth time. After a pair of Michael Volovic free throws pulled the Mocs even at 86-86, Adrian Gonzalez scored at the 4:19 mark to put Barry in front.
  • The Mocs tied it again on their next possession, but Guzonjic gave the Bucs the lead for good with 3:19 to play.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Kenan Guzonjic became just the second Buccaneer to record a double-double this season. He had season-highs with 19 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.
  • Adrian Gonzalez moved within four points of seventh place on the school's scoring list after reaching 20 points for the fourth time this season and second straight game.
  • Barry was outrebounded for the fourth straight game.
