MELBOURNE, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers couldn't overcome a cold shooting night and fell 52-48 to the Florida Tech Panthers in the Clemente Center on Wednesday night in Sunshine State Conference women's basketball action.
Kaila Britten tied her season high with 12 points and eight rebounds for the Bucs (11-6, 4-4 SSC). Jackie Perez added 11 points. Britten was 5-of-9 from the field and Perez was 4-of-9, but the rest of the team combined for just 7-of-32 shooting, 21.9 percent.
The Panthers (11-5, 6-2 SSC), playing without leading scorer Shequana Harris' 16.8 points per game, got 12 points each from Tiesha Flagler and Tereza Sedlakova and 11 points from DeLise Williams.
The Bucs, who trailed by as many as 13, trimmed the lead to just two points, 50-48, on a three-pointer by Perez with 0:13 seconds left, but Williams hit a pair of free throws for the Panthers and the Bucs last shot came up short.
The Panthers, who actually shot even worse than the Bucs (16-of-56 for 28.6 percent), owned the boards, out-rebounding the Bucs 45-27, including 21 offensive rebounds.
Perez, who was 3-of-7 from three-point range, connected for her 200th career triple in the third period with 3:32 left.
The Bucs have a bye on Saturday, but return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 27 when they host the Florida Southern Moccasins in the Health & Sports Center.
