MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers salvaged the season finale 7-2 over the Eckerd Tritons at Buccaneer Field on Saturday after dropping the first game of the doubleheader 2-0 in Sunshine State Conference softball action.
Haley Wiseman (18-7) earned the win for the Bucs, going four-plus innings and allowing two unearned runs on four hits and five walks. Taylor Sabol came in to clean up the final three innings and earn her second save of the season. She allowed just one hit, to the first batter she faced, and set the Tritons down in order in the sixth and seventh. Erin Dixson (9-7) took the loss for Eckerd, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits and four walks in four innings.
The game was delayed for 1:43 in the bottom of the second inning. Coming out of the delay, Kristina Pazienza put the Bucs (32-15, 16-8 SSC) up 2-0 with a double to left that scored Kelly Martinez and Cheyanne Head.
The Tritons (33-20, 10-14 SSC) knotted the game 2-2 in the third, scoring on a pair of Buccaneer errors.
In the fourth, Dee Espinosa drew a leadoff walk and pinch runner Christal Cruz came around to score on a single by Head. Pazienza laid down a squeeze to score Martinez, who also walked, and advanced to second when Dixson threw the ball away at first, which allowed Head to score as well. Hunter Mars ripped a single through the right side to score Pazienza.
In the fifth, Espinosa and Brito hit back-to-back doubles.
In the first game, Sydney Dinelli homered in the first inning and Brittany Mitchell added an insurance run in the seventh inning with an RBI single as the Tritons won 2-0 to clinch the series.
Sabol (9-7) took the loss in a complete-game effort. She didn't walk a batter, but allowed two runs on six hits. Amber Hay (22-13) earned the shutout, holding the Bucs to three hits, two by Alayna Gallagher, and two walks in seven innings.
The Bucs finish the season tied atop the conference standings with Tampa, though the Spartans hold the tie-breaker thanks to their 2-1 series win over the Bucs in March.
