MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Fabian Groetsch came off the court with a warm smile. Franco Echenique mirrored a similar look. Barry University men's tennis coach George Samuel ...

... Well, that's another story.

In the end, it was all happy times for No. 3 Barry, which posted its fourth shutout of the season, beating No. 25 Northwood (Mich.) 9-0 Thursday at Buccaneer Tennis Center. The win was the Buccaneers' ninth straight to start the season. Now Barry will have an eight-day layoff before playing three matches next weekend, including two in Lakeland, Fla.

Barry's No. 1 doubles team of Groetsch and Ahmed Triki, who figure to garner a national ranking when the ITA releases the individual rankings for the first time this spring in a week or two, defeated Northwood's Sebastian Equez and Austin Woody, 8-2. Dominik Haider and Echenique rolled to an 8-1 win over Salikh Gilmutdinov and Felipe Bastistella at No. 3. In the final pairs match to finish, Barry's Kevin Sielmann and Renato Lombardi beat Henrik Hellbe and Konstantin Zhukov, 8-4, at No. 2.

Groetsch and Triki are 7-1 together, all at the No. 1 flight. Lombardi and Sielmann are 6-2 at No. 2. Haider and Echenique are 7-2, which includes a 6-2 mark at No. 3.

Triki improved to 7-0 in singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Equez at the No. 1 spot. Groetsch defeated Gilmutdinov, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2. Lombardi beat Woody, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3. It was his second straight win at No. 3.

At No. 4, Fabian Pronnet picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Zhukov to improve to 6-0. Echenique defeated Bastistella, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5. Austin Cruz was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Tanini Kader at No. 6. It was Cruz's second singles match of the season.

Barry will play No. 14 New York Tech next Friday in Lakeland, followed by a Sunshine State Conference match at No. 32 Florida Southern, before making the drive to Melbourne for another SSC match at No. 44 Florida Tech.
