BOCA RATON, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers spotted the Lynn Fighting Knights a five-run lead in the first inning, but came back for an 8-7 win in 11 innings at the McCusker Sportsplex on Tuesday.
Nick Corbeil singled in the winning run in the top of the 11th frame with two outs, scoring
Alex Meneses from second base.
The Buccaneer (29-20) bullpen tossed all 11 innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits after starter
Greg Dicso failed to record an out in the first inning.
Jon Adams was the star on the hill for the Bucs, going seven innings and allowing just one run on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
Jesse Naber (2-2) picked up the win with three shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one.
Craig Sheets (3-2) took the loss for the Knights (31-18). He surrendered just the one run in 2.1 innings, allowing four hits and a walk. He struck out two.
The Knights scored five runs in the first inning off starter Dicso as he walked four and gave up a base hit to the five batters he faced. George Brander and Rick Davis walked to drive in runs and Michael Pederson added a sacrifice fly.
The Bucs cut the lead to one run 5-4 in the fourth inning thanks to a couple of errors by the Knights. The Bucs loaded the bases after from
Cesar Aranguren and
Alex Brizuela singled and
Ricky Sanchez was hit by a pitch. Errors by second baseman Dave Burns and catcher Tommy Tickenoff brought all three runner around to score as well as
Brian Lima who had reached on a fielder's choice.
Barry tied the game the next inning on an RBI single from Sanchez, scoring Aranguren who had reached on a error by third baseman Jimmy Bacon.
Lynn grabbed back the lead on a solo homer by Burns in the seventh and an RBI ground out from Bacon in the eighth.
The Knights' bullpen could not hold the lead as Barry scored twice in the ninth to tie it and set up Corbeil's heroics in the 11th. With two outs in the top of the ninth,
David San Juan and Meneses ripped back-to-back singles.
Jerry Thornton and Aranguren followed with base hits of their own to knot the game at 7-7.
The Bucs travel to St. Petersburg this weekend to face the Eckerd Tritons in a Sunshine State Conference series, then close out the regular season at Feinbloom Field on May 8-9 against the Saint Leo Lions.
