Buccaneers Muzzle Huskies To Open Russ Matt Baseball Classic

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers opened the Russ Matt Baseball Classic with a 7-2 win over the St. Cloud State Huskies on Thursday at Chain of Lakes Park.

SUMMARY:

  • T1 - Barry got started quickly with four runs in the first inning. Zavier Hatfield walked and ended up on third after Brady Blanks reached on an error by Huskies third baseman Liam Moreno. After Hatfield scored on a wild pitch by SCSU stater Kahler Key (2-1), Jalen Smith followed with an RBI single. Two outs later, Anthony Tralongo launched a homer to deep right field. | Barry 4, SCSU 0
  • T5 - Dyson Joseph, who beat out an infield single, scored when right fielder Wilmis Castro dropped a fly ball. | Barry 5, SCSU 0
  • T7 - Hatfield led off the inning with his second homer of the season. | Barry 6, SCSU 0
  • B8 - The Huskies finally broke through against the Buccaneer bullpen in the eighth. Max Robinson and Hayden Frank led off the inning with a single and double respectively. Robinson scored on a ground out and Frank came around on a single by Ryan Cahoon. | Barry 6, SCSU 2
  • T9 -  Hatfield manufactured a final run for the Bucs in the ninth. With two outs, he was hit by a pitch from reliever Grant Marshall. He went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Aiden Heffner. | Barry 7, SCSU 0

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Jack Ensell (1-1) who set down 14 straight batters from the end of the first through the sixth inning, earned the win for the Bucs. He tossed six scoreless innings, on three hits and two walks and struck out six.
  • Key went six innings for the Huskies, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks to take the loss.
  • Heffner, Smith, Tralongo and Blake Opie all has two hits for the Bucs. 
  • Tralongo drove in two on his homer, while Hatfield scored three times from his lead-off spot.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs play a split doubleheader tomorrow, facing off against the Point Park Bison at 9:00 am and the Saint Michael's Knights at 12:15 pm.
