Baseball Rallies To Take Series From Sharks In Game Two

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers baseball team used another eighth-inning rally to win their Sunshine State Conference series over the Nova Southeastern Sharks with a 9-6 come-from-behind win at Feinbloom Field Saturday night.

  • T2 - The Sharks broke open the scoring in the second. Nick Rodriguez led off with a single, went to third on a double by Jack Cue and scored on a ground out. | NSU 1, Barry 0
  • B2 - The Bucs tied it in the bottom of the inning. Erik Blair doubled to lead off and, one out later, scored on a ground out. | Barry 1, NSU 1
  • B3 - Barry took a 2-1 lead in the third. Aramis Ramirez, Jr., led off with a single to short right field and Zavier Hatfield sent him to third with a single to left center. Ramirez scored on a sacrifce fly by Jalen Smith. | Barry 2, NSU 1
  • T5 - The Sharks sent 10 men to the plate, scoring five runs, to chase Barry starter Mason Blocker. Manny Ramirez led off with his first career homer. They scored two more on a fly out and a ground ball and Ty Torti capped the inning with a two-run double down the left field line. | NSU 6, Barry 2
  • B6 - Barry chipped into the lead in the sixth off the Sharks' bullpen. Blake Opie led off the inning with his team-leading sixth homer of the season to lead things off. Anthony Tralongo followed with a double to left, and moved up to third on a balk by reliever Frank Billisi. After a walk to Christian Perez chased Billisi, the Bucs got one run on a ground out. Ramirez beat out an infield single and, with pinch runner Aidan Heffner at third, the Bucs stole a run on a first-and-third play to trim the lead to one. | NSU 6, Barry 5
  • B7 - Barry tied it in the seventh. Zavier Hatfield walked, went to second on a ground out, third on a failed pick off attempt by NSU's Ricky Gonzalez. He scored on a single by Blair to knot the game at 6-6. | Barry 6, NSU 6
  • B8 - For the second game in a row, the Bucs rallied to take the lead in the eighth. With one out, Ramirez reached and advanced to second on a throwing error by Torti. Ben Rhode came on to run for Ramirez and Hatfield was it by Gonzalez. With runners at first and second, the Bucs put on a double steal, Rhode advanced to third, but Hatfield headed back to first, making it safely, while Rhode scampered all the way home with the go ahead run. After a pop up, Smith delivered the final blow with a massive two-run homer to left center. | Barry 9, NSU 6

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Kyle Fernandes (1-0) worked a scoreless top of the eighth, allowing one hit, while facing the minimum three batters, after picking off Roylan Quevedo after the single. It was the first win of his career.
  • John Perozzi twirled a perfect ninth, setting the Sharks down in order for his fifth save.
  • Gonzalez (2-1) took the loss for the Sharks.
  • Blair and Ramirez each had two hits, while Smith drove in three to lead Barry.
  • Cue, who entered the contest hitting .219, went 3-for-4 to lead NSU. Quevedo and Sebastian Garavito each had two hits, while Torti drove in three.
