MELBOURNE, Fla. – Sunshine State Conference Commissioner Ed Pasque announced that 1,738 student-athletes, including 122 Barry University Buccaneers, earned spots on the 2021 Spring SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll. A total of 353 student-athletes, including 22 Bucs, carried a perfect 4.00 grade-point average for the spring semester.
The 2021 numbers mark the second time in which the SSC has recognized over 1,700 student-athletes and 350 perfect grade-point averages on the Spring Honor Roll. The record of 1,819 SSC Spring Honor Roll recipients and 517 perfect grade-point averages was set in Spring 2020.
Baseball led the way with 30 members of the honor roll. Men's tennis, which put 11 of 12 members on the team, had the highest percentage of honorees. Baseball, women's basketball and rowing all had five student-athletes with 4.0 GPAs, although hoops and rowing shared Josie Wiles. In addition to Wiles, Charlotte Armstrong also split time between the court and the crew.
To be eligible for the Spring SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Participants in the sports of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's lacrosse, women's rowing, baseball, and softball are eligible for the spring honor roll.
ABOUT THE SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCE
Having won 113 Division II National Championships since the league was founded in 1975, SSC's student-athletes have proven to be successful in the classroom as well. The SSC boasts an Academic Success Rate of 86 percent for the tenth consecutive year.
