Although he only played one season with the Bucs, Yan Gomes led the team to one of the best seasons in school history in 2009, including their first-ever Sunshine State Conference championship, and still holds a number of school records. The Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year, he set school records for longest hitting streak in a season at 30 games, 30 multi-hit games, 23 multi-RBI games, 92 RBI and 172 total bases. He has gone on to a long and successful career in Major League Baseball, becoming the first Brazilian-born player in MLB history, and playing a key role in the Washington Nationals World Series run in 2019. He was the Bucs’ first consensus All-America pick, earning First-Team honors from the ABCA, Daktronics and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers.
