Patricia Mies Koenig contributed greatly to the history of athletics at Barry University during the formative years of the institution. Throughout her four years at Barry from 1950-54, she participated in all athletic activities when it was an all-women’?s college. There were no athletic scholarships, and the women who loved athletics were the only participants. Pat represented Barry in synchronized swimming (water ballet), which was one of the highlights of the year. She attended all Play Days (the state championships for women at all colleges at the time).

Besides her swimming talents, she also competed in golf, softball, basketball and volleyball at Barry, and won a state intercollegiate bowling championship twice.  She was a member of the Athletic Association all four years and was president during her junior and senior years. In Barry’?s early history, the Association was the largest student group on campus.  She also founded Olympic Day in 1953, where all classes participated in a full day of athletic activities. Pat also was on the student council, Cor Jesu choir, and the Tara singers.
